Bare Boards / Kits

What is a bare board?  What comes in a kit?

A bare board is a PCB without any components on it.  You must buy the components and assemble the board yourself.  If the board has any "hard to find parts" or uses programmed IC's we will try to alert you to this and offer to sell them to you.  An example might be the programmed CPLD or EPROM on the R-31JP.   The bare board comes with an assembly manual.  The user's manuals for the board and software are available from our web site.

A kit includes a bare board and all the components needed to build the board.  It includes all the IC's, EPROMS and CPLD's will be programmed.  The kit comes with an assembly manual.  The user's manuals for the board and software are available from our web site.  A kit does not include solder or a soldering iron.

We often get asked why we offer our products as bare boards or in kit form.

We do it for several reasons.

  • We enjoy building the boards and want to offer that opportunity to others.
  • Some users wish to make modifications to our boards and it's easier to do on a bare board.
  • Schools often like to have their students build the board to learn how it's done.
  • Some customers want to save money and offering kits is a way of doing this.

If you'd like one of our boards in kit form or are interested in a bare board which we don't offer.  E-mail us, we'll be happy to help you.
