Reads51 is an integrated applications software development system, which runs on an IBM PC or compatible host. Reads51 contains a C compiler, relative assembler, linker/locator, editor,  chip simulator, assembly language debugger, and host-to-board communications in a user-friendly, menu-driven environment.  All of Reads51 features are designed and used with Rigel's line of 8051 boards and books.  Reads51 allows writing, compiling, assembling, debugging, downloading, and running applications software in the MCS-51 language.

Debugging functions include breakpoints, single-stepping, source-level debugging, and inspecting and modifying memory, internal registers, and special function registers.  The MCS-51 instructions are included in the comprehensive on-line help system.  All Reads51 functions can be activated from the menus, toolbars, or by hot-key combinations.  Embedded control software may be developed, assembled/compiled, downloaded to the board, and debugged, all without having to leave the menu-driven user friendly environment.

Example Software: Source code is provided to experiment with the capabilities of Rigel's boards and Reads51.  Examples are designed to illustrate the features of the 8051 family of microcontrollers, specifically digital and serial input / output, timers and counters, and interrupt logic.  Also included are the software examples from our books: routines for keypads, LCDs, stepper motors, and DC motors.   Please refer to the comments embedded in the programs for further information.

Users are encouraged to modify the example software in developing their own specific applications. The source code of the user-accessible systems calls, as well as all examples on the distribution disk may be used or incorporated into applications by the registered buyer without any royalties, fees, or limitations. RIGEL Corporation is not responsible for the suitability or correctness of the example software. Refer to warranty for additional information.
