R-167JIF

The R167-JIF is an embedded controller designed to accept multiple processors in the Infineon and ST Microelectronics 166 family. The board works with the following processors: SABC167CR and ST10F168 which has both CAN and 256K FLASH capabilities. The board has the CAN physical layer built in and will program the FLASH version of processors.  The R167-JIF is designed to run each processor at its fastest speed with no wait states. The R167-JIF uses a socketed oscillator to allow the customer to run the board at various speeds. A 16-bit non-multiplexed data bus and a 16-bit non-multiplexed address bus are implemented. The monitor program or user program is downloaded to RAM using the bootstrap feature on the processors. A set of option headers, make the R167-JIF a flexible hardware platform.  Notable features of the board include:

1. Industrial strength shielding: The printed circuit board is an six-layered board with separate VCC and GND planes for improved shielding designed to operate in noisy industrial applications.
2. FLASH Memory Capability: 512KB FLASH memory. An additional 256K FLASH on the ST10F168 / SAB C167CR-FM32
3. External bus system on a header. The R167-JIF has a 2x16 pin header for selection of the operating modes, which are determined during reset by the state of Port 0 bits.

Software Overview
Reads166, Version 3.10, is Rigel Corporation’s Integrated Development Environment for the Infineon / ST Microelectronics 16-bit processors. Reads166 includes an editor, a host-to-board communications system, an assembler, and a C compiler. Reads166 is written in native 32-bit code to run on Windows 95 / 98 / NT. Reads166 includes a sophisticated project management system to simplify code reusability and version control. The C compiler is rewritten to support a full debugger. The debugger allows you to step through your code with breakpoints and variable watches as the compiled code runs on the target board, similar to the operation of an in-circuit emulator.

rFLI Utility Software runs in the Windows 95 / 98 / NT environment. It supports the bootstrap loader feature and downloads a minimal monitor during bootstrapping. rFLI is a utility program to program the internal FLASH memory of the processor and the external FLASH memory chips on the R167-JIF board. The R167-JIF must be bootstrapped and the special-purpose monitor program downloaded before any other utility is used. The special-purpose monitor was developed with Rigel's integrated development environment Reads166. The rFLI program should be used only when you wish to burn the FLASH memory. Use the Reads166 for code development.

The R167-JIF package includes the following:

  1. R167-JIF board with 512K of static RAM, 512K EEPROM
  2. Evaluation version of Reads166 for Windows 95 / 98 / NT
  3. rFLI Utility Software
  4. RMON166 monitor program with source code
  5. Software from third party vendors, Keil, Tasking
  6. User's Guide with circuit diagrams
  7. Bootstrap file source code
  8. Sample programs
